Tarot thoughts

Tarot cards are a tool.  There's some discussion about when they first were used in fortune telling.  One theory is that they were developed for a card game played in the 15th century.  Another school of thought is that the cards were loosely based on an Egyptian system of fortune telling with the Rom supposedly being descendants of ancient Egyptian mystics.  Where ever and whenever these tools were first developed, they are a way to clarify thoughts.

As a card reader, I use a variety of spreads depending on where I am working and what my client is looking for.  When I am at a festival, I usually do readings using a 3 card spread for Past, Present, Future.  This is not a literal view of the client's past, present and future.  This is mean to be symbolic of situations they have found themselves in and how they are responding to those situations.  Future is never set in stone.  Future means possible outcomes, things a person can choose to change, things which might influence their decisions, or even a potential response they can make to the situation they are focusing on during the reading.

The cards have artwork on them.  Each design has a message in it.  This is not "woo-woo" magic.  This is basic Jungian archetypes and letting the subconscious bring up what ever it has been muddling over.  I know there are some who firmly believe their religious upbringing and how fortune telling is evil.  I have had encounters with some extremely well meaning but misguided folks.  I wish to state clearly Tarot is not the "Devil's Uno" or any other thing you've been brain-washed into believing.

As part of my attempt to be better at blogging, I will on occasion share a tarot reading or two .

Meh

 Yes, I said it.

Meh.

That just about sums up this year for everyone.  For those of us in the U.S., we had an election.  Many of us are thankful for the high turn out and the vote for humane decency.  A vocal few are not only discontented with the outcome, they are yelling about fraud which didn't happen.

As a minister, I tried hard to not share my opinion on this page or on my Facebook account for Ratatoskr Ministries.  That was a major struggle.  People are political.  We have opinions.  However, I do not trust clergy who tell me how to vote and I make every effort to say Vote.  But not say how to vote.

It is a government holiday here.  We are supposed to be thankful for a myth.  I'm grateful to my ancestors from both sides of the Atlantic.  Without them, I wouldn't be here.  I am grateful for being blessed with technological wonders I couldn't dream of as a child. (Born in 1962, computers did not show up in schools until after I graduated from high school.)  I am grateful for living in a time and a place with so many conveniences.

As someone who was born on the tag end of the baby boom, I am considered a boomer.  I feel as if I should apologize for the mess older boomers made of things.  I wish I could have been more proactive in protesting changes in work culture that necessitated people needing 2 or more jobs just to survive.  So many times I felt like a lone voice in the wilderness.

As this train wreck of a year comes to an end, practice the pause.  Reflect on your choices.  Try to make good choices, think of the greater good and of community instead of selfish desires.

Bless Be on a day of mourning and of thanks.
